When Sims 2 was at the height of its popularity, some 15-20 years ago, there was a fansite called 'Mike Inside', which featured illustrated tutorials on trick building techniques, especially using the Constrain Floor Elevation (CFE) cheat, as well as some others. I suspect this is where many if not most of the old-time Lot builders learned their trade.
For anyone who wants to learn how to use the Constrain Floor Elevation cheat, these are the tutorials you want to view. The instructions are very clear, easy to follow and lavishly illustrated.
The contents of the original 'Mike Inside' site are now hosted at Mod The Sims, here, but note that the pages will not show with the Chrome browser, you need Firefox.
Alternatively, if you are using the Chrome browser, the 'Mike Inside' tutorials can be viewed at the Internet Archive, here.
Additionally, for anyone wanting to get into using the various building and other game cheats, I would highly recommend using one of two methods to avoid having to always type those lengthy commands.
The first method is one that most players seem to use and it involves creating a 'userstartup' text file for the game. You'll have to go elsewhere to find out exactly how to do this and where in the game to put it, because I don't use this method and I don't want to give out wrong information, although it seemed easy enough the last time I checked some years ago.
I instead use a second method, which is a little macro program that substitutes the lengthy cheat codes with a couple of simple keystrokes. The program is called 'Lucas Easy Sims 2 Cheats 3' and is available here. This website seems to be inactive, so if it ever disappears, I can make the program available.
